Reports to: AHR Ownership/Executive Team Type of position: Full Time/Exempt/Salaried Job Summary: Accountable for implementation and execution of profitable business strategies for passenger and freight operations leveraging current assets; address capacity and optimal efficiency in all functional areas of right-of-way, train operations, equipment maintenance, manpower, systems, pricing, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Provide corporate oversight of all railroad operations and maintenance at AHR owned or operated railroads •Assist with development and implementation of strategic goals and objectives for AHR railroad operations and maintenance to include motive power, rail cars, track, bridges and railroad structures •Evaluates causes of failures in equipment/track structure/systems to insure the initiation of positive measures to improve performance. Reviews operating and maintenance records and develops additional and more effective preventive maintenance procedures •Ensure that all projects, programs and strategic plans are carried out efficiently and within established deadlines to facilitate the accomplishment of AHR’s strategic mission •Consult with AHR railroad mgmt personnel to formulate administrative and operational policies / procedures / practices designed to streamline workflows, minimize overhead, maximize revenue and profit •Evaluate/Implement/Execute/Monitor compliance with all Federal, State, and Company safety programs to insure a vibrant and active Safety First culture in all AHR railroad activities •Evaluate/Create/Implement as needed training programs for all AHR railroad operations/mechanical/MOW employees •Mentor and develop key AHR railroad management operations / mechanical / MOW staff using a supportive and collaborative approach that results in improved accountability and results •Recommend specific capital projects for AHR railroads consistent with accomplishment of overall AHR strategic plans •Evaluate/Implement potential new freight business partnerships, negotiate agreements and ensure best interest implementation •Represent AHR as needed with local, state, and federal agencies. •Assist in developing and recommending operating schedules for AHR railroads •Assist in creating AHR budgets and goals. •Assist in Right of Way licenses and issues at AHR railroads •Other duties as requested by AHR Ownership / Exec Mgmt
Qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered •10 years of general railroad experience with a minimum of 6 years in railroad freight operations/mgmt. •4 years of experience directing/managing a division, agency, operation to include HR, fiscal, operational and strategic decisions •Proven track record of excellent performance within a complex enterprise •Experience overseeing multi-million dollar capital projects •Extensive knowledge of FRA regulations including relevant new legislation effecting railroad operations •Exceptional written and verbal communication acumen •Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret technical correspondence, financial reports, legal documents and contracts for service •Excellent judgement and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution •Demonstrated experience leading diverse work groups
