The Medical Group comprises community-based primary-care physician and specialty-care practices. We are more than 140 doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other caregivers employed by Christiana Care. Managing these practices as a group enables better support for physicians and the ability to serve patients more effectively.
Under the supervision of the Medical Group of Christiana Care Operational Leadership, the Director of Practice Optimization will lead efforts to improve caregiver wellbeing across our employed practices through the elimination of waste. This role will lead and direct work focused on process efficiency, standardization of work, waste identification and elimination, and IT optimization. The Director will also be a key leader in helping to design and implement a Lean leadership philosophy and structure across the Medical Group, with a focus on creating leadership standard work and improving problem solving and value creation at the front lines of the Medical Group practices. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Leads efforts to support operational improvement efforts across practices. Serves as a key interface between key clinical, operational, IT and technical aspects of the practices. •Manages improvement projects as assigned to meet established goals. Effectively and efficiently influences processes, outcomes and behaviors to complete assignments in a timely and quality focused manner. •Supports teams and their members to accomplish clinical and operational work in an efficient, quality focused manner so as to contribute positively to the achievement of departmental and system goals. •Provides statistical and analytical support for performance improvement initiatives, with a focus on using data analysis programs (data warehouse) and tools to support clinical transformation efforts across the continuum of care. •Leads and coordinates work efforts of Medical Group improvement teams, CCHS system resources and external resources. •Designs, in partnership with Medical Group leadership, standardized tools and training to support the adoption of a Lean management approach at all leadership levels across the Medical Group. •Designs and implements operational process redesign efforts using Lean principles. Supports the practices in researching innovative methods, tools, practices, processes and systems. Assists leaders in designing comprehensive solutions that apply innovative approaches. •Researches and identifies related benchmarks to be used in establishing internal standards, targets and/or practices. •Provides combined technical, business and application leadership expertise for a specific business area(s). Creates a motivating environment and atmosphere for permanently assigned staff. •Identifies, plans and conducts evaluation of operational process, information system and technology related needs and recommends solutions/alternatives to appropriate management. •Conducts all aspects of assigned projects, on time and within budget. Coordinates/leads the efforts of assigned project members in all project endeavors including the implementation and ongoing support of assigned projects. •Ensures the operational readiness of assigned systems or infrastructure and assures effective associated services. •Maintains effective lines of communications and relationships within the Medical Group across other CCHS leaders. •Identifies and pursues opportunities for continuing professional development to increase understanding of assigned areas, clinical practices, practice operations, etc. •Develops, maintains and revises work plans as appropriate to the work. Monitors outcomes. Integrates work with all other departmental initiatives and revises. Anticipates needs of customers and addresses these appropriately. •Supports meetings as necessary - prepares meeting materials and ensures appropriate communications before, during and after the meeting. •Delivers written and oral presentations in a professional, persuasive manner. •Initiates, exhibits and supports excellent two-way communication and working relationships with all audiences to foster ongoing information exchange during the development and implementation of operational initiatives. •Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: •Master’s degree in Healthcare related field, Business or Industrial Engineering. •Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in healthcare operations improvement field. Specific experience in health operations improvement, physician practice management, information technology are essential. •Lean Black Belt or Master Black Belt Certification.
