Serves as Structural Engineer for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Team in the Division of Bridges. Performs highly difficult and technically complex civil engineering work. Reviews calculations and plans at various levels of development. Conducts research on complex engineering projects. Coordinates with geotechnical reviewers for foundation related items and provides input on code compliance. Serves as team leader on the project with potential impact on engineering operations or city infrastructure. Attends meetings in the field with contractors and other personnel. Serves as a consultant on major engineering matters. May be required to work on weekends or during overnight hours. Reports directly to the Project Engineer. Performs other related duties.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
(1)Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; and
(2)A valid New York State Professional Engineers License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required in "l" above.
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a
complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Knowledge of AASHTO codes and NYSDOT Bridge
Design Manual. Experience with software such as LARSA, STAAD and CADD.
TO BE APPOINTED TO ANY CIVIL ENGINEERING POSITION IN BRIDGES, CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS ONE YEAR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE IN BRIDGE DESIGN, BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION, BRIDGE MAINTENANCE OR BRIDGE INSPECTION.
New York City Residence is not required for this position.
