The Quality Engineer drives continuous product and process improvements by utilizing a combination of Quality Tools (Technical Problem Solving, Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, etc…) within the Crane Business System structure. This role is the primary support vehicle for helping the site to maintain its machining, welding, assembly and testing expertise, as well as compliance to all applicable industry and internal quality standards.
Work with internal departments and suppliers to resolve quality related problems with a direction toward prevention of nonconforming items.
Participate and help site prepare for of PED (Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EEC) and ISO 9001 audits, certification maintenance and help assure alignment of these internal audits to the improvement of our Quality Management System
Interpret quality related specification requirements and translate them into practical procedural instructions and shop floor actions.
Continuously improve acceptance criteria, defect detection methods and best practices related to inspection, assembly, welding, machining and hydrostatic testing.
Handle/support technical queries and investigating of field related quality issues.
Analyze internal and external data for actionable trends/concern detection.
Qualify & improve external suppliers with some source and first article inspections.
Participate in the Material Review Board as necessary.
