Focus / Objective: Provide extrusion tooling technical expertise as a critical component for managing the thermoplastic and thermoset lineal technologies within the Andersen enterprise. Focus will be on researching tooling options, developing specifications and standards, working closely with process engineers and suppliers, analyzing data for improvements and leading tooling related projects.
This position can be based in any of our following locations: Marion, OH; Bayport, MN or North Brunswick, NJ.
Research tooling options, understand trade-offs and provide guidance.
Develop standards for tooling specifications, drawings, change management and audit for continuity.
Participate in tooling strategy discussions – appropriate type of tooling to meet the intended purpose
Use modeling software to help design dies and calibration tooling along with verifying results and continue to make improvements.
Work closely with tooling suppliers to review designs, coordinate projects and provide improvement feedback.
Provide technical leadership to develop, evolve, and improve existing tooling and processing capabilities.
Provide operational technical support for existing tooling and documentation.
Analyze data, develop proposals focused on improvements and present to management.
Develop metrics to show status and improvements with regular reporting.
Work closely with extrusion process engineers and technicians to understand tooling related problems and offer solutions.
Collaborate with other leaders to share technical expertise and best practices especially with similar processes to achieve short and long term corporate strategies and their integration with broad and complex technical challenges. Take a leadership role in helping shape and execute the short and long term strategies.
Plan, organize and lead technical aspects of large-scale capital / expense projects to successful conclusion.
Participate in commercialization activities for new applications and products in collaboration with product development, manufacturing and plant operations. Work with business partners to achieve win/win solutions regarding designing for manufacturability and process capability.
Work independently under general managerial direction with ability to develop and implement own work objectives.
Keep informed on supplier offerings and developing technologies to determine opportunities worth pursuing.
Schedule, assign, direct, review and perform related work coordination activities and follow-ups with others on technical teams.
Participate in developing curricula for use within technology areas and providing general training.
Willingness to travel approximately 25% for projects based in other Andersen Corporation extrusion facilities: Georgia, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio and Texas
4 year engineering degree with preference for Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering.
Engineering experience – helpful to have background in thermoplastics (primarily PVC), extrusion process and extrusion tooling.
Knowledge and experience with tool & die design using AutoCAD or similar software.
Experience in manufacturing, quality systems, statistical process control, process capability and lean manufacturing is helpful.
Strong aptitude in problem solving using analytical tools, making process improvements and technical writing.
Strong communication and project management skills with ability to work independently in a cross functional team environment.
