The Mission of Portland’s Bureau of Development Services is to promote safety, livability, and economic vitality through efficient and collaborative application of building and development codes.
The City of Portland's Bureau of Development Services is seeking a Senior Engineer to work in the Engineering Plan Review section. This position will provide first level supervision of the geotechnical engineering work team by planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and coordinating the work of the team which is responsible for the geotechnical plan review of development including commercial, industrial and residential buildings and other structures to ensure compliance with accepted geotechnical engineering practices, geotechnical provisions of State and City building codes and other pertinent laws and regulations. The Senior Engineer will actively participate in geotechnical plan review and is expected to perform and administer the most complex professional engineering work requiring a substantial level of professional training and experience. The position will assist in the development and implementation of engineering standards and priorities and the preparation of operating budget recommendations, serve as a technical resource expert, interpret geotechnical code provisions, review code appeals and provide recommendations to the Appeals Board. In addition, this position will use independent judgment and initiative; work collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, developers and citizens to resolve development issues, identify priorities, resolve conflicts; adhere to the Bureau's expectations of providing excellent customer service in an equitable manner to meet the needs of the City of Portland's community; and participate in activities that promote workplace diversity, safe working behaviors, and positive employee relations.
The current opportunity is in Development Services; however, the eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other bureaus.
