The Department of Civil Engineering and Construction in the College of Engineering and Computing invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair. This position is located on the Statesboro campus, but may require travel to the other campuses.

Within this setting, the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), a Bachelor of Science in Construction (BSCons), and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering (BSConE) degrees. The BSCE is accredited by ABET while the BSCons is accredited by ACCE. The department also offers a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) degree. Areas of specialization within the master's program include: Construction Engineering, Environmental/Water Resources Engineering, Transportation-Pavement/Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Surveying-Geomatics. Current areas of active research include advanced structural analysis and design, water/wastewater treatment, surface water quality management, advanced soils stabilization, traffic and pavement design, and sustainable green construction, among others. Consistent with the college's philosophy of experiential learning, delivery of the curriculum involves significant hands-on experience through which students learn applied skills valued by employers. The department boasts strong industry partnerships which provide our students with projects, applied research, internships, and access to state-of-the-art equipment and software.
Position Description. Reporting to the Dean of the college, the Chair will provide leadership for the teaching, scholarship, and service missions of the department. The Chair will advance a culture of academic excellence in which each faculty member is expected to adhere to the University's teacher-scholar model. The Chair provides leadership for undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, assessment of student learning, accreditation, research programs, and initiatives that further the department's and college's strategic plans. The Chair is also responsible for the department's administration and resource management as well as academic scheduling. The Chair represents the department within the university community and builds and maintains contacts with industry, alumni and external stakeholders.
The position is a fiscal year (12 month), tenured/tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Earned terminal degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
Credentials and a record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with those of tenured faculty members holding the rank of full professor at Georgia Southern University
Experience with ABET accreditation
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Minimum of five years' full-time college/university teaching experience at the associate professor level is required for the rank of professor along with a substantive record of research and service with substantial publications and presentations in professional venues
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
Demonstrated strong leadership skills to enhance department/unit growth
Experience relevant to recruiting, developing, and retaining high achieving faculty
Experience managing a department or program, including budget
A history of an open administrative style showing flexibility in governance and demonstrating the ability to earn the trust and confidence of faculty, students, staff, and administrators
Experience developing partnerships with business and industry leaders in the public and private sectors, including fundraising activities
Experience with strategic planning and program development
Ability to develop and sustain a research program
Relevant industry experience in the field
Applicable professional licensure (P.E. or similar)
Experience with ACCE accreditation
