VDOT is seeking an individual to serve as the Assistant District Engineer to manage the bridge project delivery program by providing the design, plan and construction documents for bridge structures, repairs and rehabilitations, meeting all design and schedule requirements for specific crossings . As a VDOT Assistant District Eng(SB), you will:
• Manage and oversee development of bridges and other structural maintenance projects. Coordinate and manage bridge construction and rehabilitation projects. Make recommendations for plan changes due to unforeseen field conditions. Manage consultant service design contracts from initial scope of work to submission of plans to advertisement. Ensure effective project management of bridge projects. Provide technical guidance and direction. • Manage and oversee the review of structural design, plans and working drawings on bridges and other structures. Conduct mid to long term planning to develop and recommend priorities, resources, estimates and programming needs for future bridge maintenance investment and construction projects. Analyze or oversee the analysis of complicated or unique structures. Function as Responsible Charge Engineer stamping and signing plans. • Develop dedicated bridge fund program by coordinating with other sections and divisions, monitoring six year improvement program, federal strategy, IPM, Dashboard, project development process and schedule. Assist with the development of priorities and establishment of projects for the bridge maintenance, bridge replacement and state force maintenance programs

You are minimally qualified if you have: • Knowledge of engineering principles, practices and procedures as applied to bridges and structures. • Knowledge of bridge nomenclature, specifications and inspection methods. • Knowledge of structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, steel design, design procedures, drafting techniques, plan preparation and estimating. • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources and leadership techniques. • Ability to interpret and apply engineering practices and procedures to a variety of complex structural engineering projects, draw logical conclusions and exercise sound engineering judgment. • Ability to manage, coordinate and oversee multiple projects and schedules and multiple engineering disciplines • Ability to supervise staff, programs and budgets. • Skill in the use of computers and web based applications to include bridge design programs and CADD.
