The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks applicants for multiple Professor of Practice faculty positions beginning in the Fall 2019 semester.
The Fulton Schools is the largest and one of the most comprehensive engineering schools in the nation and is excelling in its strategic goals of advancing research and innovation at scale, revolutionizing engineering and technology education and expanding global outreach and partner engagement. As a part of this outreach and engagement, we are hiring Professors of Practice with deep career experiences to broaden the knowledge and skillsets of our students to complement the technical depth acquired in their major. The successful candidates for this position will have a demonstrated and sustained record of excellence and advancement in their career, will share our passion for education and be effective in a highly collaborative environment.
Our Professors of Practice will be expected to provide leadership for our capstone courses including working with our programs and schools to re-imagine the capstone experience; teaching/co-teaching undergraduate capstone courses in their discipline; working with industry to source capstone projects; working with program faculty to integrate new opportunities for practicing design in core classes leading up to the capstone course and teach other courses as assigned in their program. Other responsibilities include holding office hours, participating in course and program assessment, and working with student organizations and competition teams.
In addition, Professors of Practice will design and support student experiential learning opportunities connected to our corporate engagements. These may include traditional internships in which students work directly with employers though may also include new innovative partnerships in which the Professor of Practice lead a group of students in collaborative industry projects. Professors of Practice will also partner with the Fulton Engineering Career Center in expanding student professional development opportunities.
A minimum of a Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or a related field by the time of appointment as well as expertise, achievements, and reputation developed over a sustained period of time in an engineering field is required. Evidence of teaching and/or mentoring excellence is preferred.
