Wood is looking for a Senior Radiation Technician who is comfortable working leading radiation protection field staff to implement the Wood radiation protection program. The Radiological Services and Engineering office of Wood maintains an NRC, and California, radioactive materials license, this position would be responsible for the day to day implementation of these licenses. This position will report to the Site Radiation Safety Officer (SRSO) and be trained to assume the duties of the SRSO, for future projects. Additionally, the technician is expected to support radiological assessments, conduct radiation surveys and perform oversight project monitoring for radiation hazards, analyze radiological data and draft reports.
Serves as senior technician implementing the license Radiation Protection Program on projects where the Wood radiation protection program is mandated or warranted
Oversees the program to train and qualify Radiological Control Technicians (RCT), Radiation Workers, and Radioactive Materials Users. Supervise one or more trained RCT’s
Manage, analyze, review, and interpret data and information collected in support of the Radiation Protection Program
Ensure radiological protection instrumentation and equipment is maintained and available as required by the license
Maintain records of program activities and project field activities to demonstrate compliance with the Radiation Protection Program, conditions and requirements of Wood radioactive materials licenses, and associated laws and regulations
Coordinates and works with Environmental Engineering Section staff to support collection of radiological measurement and data for environmental characterization
Effectively communicate with customers (both internal and external), regulators, project management and field staff
Will be based on Grand Junction Co and travel to project sites in the US and internationally, approximately 70% overnight travel
Skills / Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of directly relevant and increasingly advancing experience
High School Diploma or equivalent, AS or BS degree preferred
ANSI 13.2 qualifications, or equivalent, as a Senior Health Physics Technician
HAZWOPER Training preferred
Computer proficiency to include MS Word and database skills
Knowledge of GPS operations preferred
Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work alone and with a team
Understanding of applicable scientific methods and technical methodologies
Ability to use radiological equipment in an effective and safe manner
Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
Ability to write and prepare reports and documentation
Attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Ability to follow directions
Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US and internationally, approximately 70% overnight travel
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
