The Department of Civil Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time Department Chair position as early as summer 2020.
The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level with a demonstrated record of successfully working with a highly diversified faculty. Experience with the successful development of grant proposals and creative educational opportunities for students; experience working with international collaborations, and experience with developing external project relationships with area industrial partners are each a plus. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach existing undergraduate courses and work to revise the Master of Civil Engineering program. Candidates will be expected to take an active role in the development and implementation of the Institute’s initiative on externally-collaborative, project-based, interdisciplinary curriculum (EPIC) for learning.
Provides leadership and vision for a team of 10 full-time faculty, two laboratory technicians, adjunct faculty and an academic coordinator. The Chair will also provide long-term strategic planning for the Civil Engineering program while supervising, supporting and facilitating the work of a faculty. The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The Department Chair oversees the collection and proper review of student outcome assessment information and accreditation documentation to support continued accreditation of the program. The Chair works with various internal and external constituents, including the Civil Engineering Professional Advisory Committee (CEPAC). Department Chairs are expected to carry a small teaching load (two courses per year) throughout their tenure at Wentworth.
Master’s degree in a related field is required. Teaching experience at the university level. Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or related fields and Professional Engineering License (P.E.) are preferred.
