The Department of Pathology at the Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a Vice Chair for Research Pathology. The successful candidate will have a solid background in a multidisciplinary academic clinical practice and research setting. At a minimum, candidates must have five years experience directing a research laboratory, have evidence of obtaining external peer reviewed funding as principal investigator to support their research, and possess an MD with residency training in Pathology. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of Florida is required. Moffitt is committed to education through a wide range of residency and fellowship programs. Evidence of mentoring junior faculty and leading team science initiatives is strongly desired, as is expertise in technologies related to molecular profiling of tumors and image analysis of tumors. In addition to their clinical appointment, the Vice Chair Research Pathology will allocate the position’s effort between clinical, research, educational and administrative activities and under the direction of the Department of Pathology Chair will provide leadership to the research faculty, demonstrating through their own behavior the principles of servant leader, collegiality and mutual respect.
Consistently ranked in U.S. News & World Report “Best Cancer Hospitals” for the past nine years, Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute is a free-standing, not-for-profit cancer center. Moffitt opened on the campus of Tampa’s University of South Florida in October 1986 and became Florida’s only NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2001. There is vast opportunity within our framework for information technology, scientific research, clinical treatment and quality of life studies, as we see over 15,000 new cancer patients each year. The Pathology Department also houses a rich, robust database of thousands of cases with sequencing, molecular and clinical data facilitating our research mission. Our environment is one of multi-modality, patient-centered care requiring highly collaborative clinical research programs. The candidate will have excellent opportunities for clinical and translational research and an established focus is expected with a track record of publications and/or leadership in the molecular pathology arena. Opportunities also exist to join established basic research programs. Candidates possessing a Expert Consultation Practice are highly desirable.
The Moffitt Cancer Center is comprised of a large ambulatory care facility, a 206-bed hospital, with 36-bed blood and marrow transplant program, 20 state of the art operating suites, a 30-bed intensive care unit, a high volume screening program, and a basic science research facility. The Moffitt Research Institute is comprised of approximately 160 Principal Investigators, 58 laboratories, and 306,000 square feet of research space. For translational research, Moffitt’s enterprise-wide data warehouse, the Health and Research Informatics (HRI) platform, offers endless opportunities to link quantitative imaging, clinical, and molecular data. HRI houses information on more than 500,000 unique patients, including treatment information available from the electronic health records and Cancer Registry on more than 200,000 cancer patients, patient-reported data on 150,000 patients, and vast amounts of research and clinical-grade sequencing and expression data on more than 20,000 patients.
Faculty of the Moffitt Cancer Center are eligible for academic appointments at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Interested applicants should send an updated CV and a research synopsis.
