This position is responsible for supporting and overseeing the planning, design, construction, and capital renewal and replacement of rail and bus systems elements. These elements include the signaling system, communications system, traction electrification system, automated fare collection system, on-board vehicle systems, passenger stations and stops, park-and-ride/transit center facilities, maintenance and service facilities, and the Operations and Control Center. Supports and oversees all systems engineering planning, design, construction, and capital renewal and replacement work by Valley Metro staff, consultants, and contractors including signals, communications, traction electrification, light rail vehicles, fare collection, passenger stations, park-and-rides/transit centers, and maintenance and service facilities and the Operations and Control Center; and ensures adherence to quality, budget, and schedules for all projects.
Attends and participates in professional meetings including the Safety Certification Committee, regional working groups, and others as assigned; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in rail related fields; incorporates new developments as appropriate.
Coordinates designs with other divisions/departments to assure effective interfaces.
Provides updates of the design criteria, standard specifications, standard drawings and other standards for Valley Metro's projects.
Develops engineering designs and cost estimates.
Provides technical analysis and review in support of Valley Metro's projects.
Establishes and manages effective internal and external communication and coordination with Valley Metro departments, consultants, contractors, and member agencies.
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
