Clemson's Center for Watershed Excellence is seeking a Watershed Project Scientist! This scientist will be an integral team member, overseeing the day-to-day operations, quality control, and more of our citizen science program with DHEC, SC Adopt-a-Stream. Support the growth, development, and expansion of the SC Adopt-a-Stream citizen science program. Participate in research, grant writing, and outreach related to watershed health. Other duties as assigned.
30% - Essential - Manage day-to-day operations related to this citizen science monitoring program and its growth. Build ADA compliant webpages, communicate with volunteers, post events, prepare kits, and conduct trainings, as needed. As best possible, utilize the train-the-trainer model.
30% - Essential - Identify new partners and potential sponsors of the program. Be a leader in identifying new training opportunities, growing a network of partners, and efficiently recertifying growing numbers of volunteers. using our online recertification platform.
15% - Essential - Participate in the launch of the tidal waterways monitoring program and grant writing. This will include development of training resources, database expansion and testing, hosting trainings and meetings, and research and collaborations.
15% - Essential - Identify opportunities for research that uses or aligns with citizen science monitoring and watershed management.
10% - Essential - Assist in being a resource to growing watershed monitoring requests from schools and other stakeholders.
Education - Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area
Work Exp - 2+ years working with the public in environmental sciences or monitoring. A master's degree in biology, chemistry or wildlife management may be substituted for the required work experience.
Fundamental Job Knowledge - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.
