The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as a Traffic and Lighting Operations Supervisor in the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities of Position
This position supervises and directs the work of the Traffic and Lighting Section of the Operations Division including street lighting maintenance, maintenance of traffic signals, parking control signage, information signage, pavement markings and JULIE locates.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: customer service, snow removal, public events requiring Operations support, hazard mitigation, storm events, and other activities deemed essential to City infrastructure maintenance and improvement. Serves as a rotating on-call supervisor for the Public Works Operations Division after hours response. This position requires the ability to work up to 16-hour emergency shifts with little or no advance notice.
The annual starting salary range is $78,023 - $88,818, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applicationsmust be submitted online to champaignil.gov/jobs no later than Sunday, July 18, 2021.

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least three (3) years of experience as a master electrician.
At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment, Class B CDL without air brake restriction issued by the State of Illinois.
Current state-issued driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Working knowledge of equipment and hardware/software related to street lighting, traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, and JULIE locates.
Customer service experience.
College courses or Associate degree in electricity, electronics, or mechanics; or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with coursework in traffic engineering.
Master electrician construction or installation work experience.
Knowledge of or experience with applicable ordinances, regulations and guidance, such as National Electrical Code Standards, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Illinois Commerce Commission, and JULIE, Inc.
Experience preparing budgets and managing expenditures, purchases, and contracts.
Knowledge of infrastructure maintenance and worksite safety regulations.
Experience supervising work crews in the field.
Experience supervising snow and ice removal operations/crews.
Drug screening will be required.
