As a CDOT Engineer, you would represent the owner of the State’s transportation infrastructure. Our engineering teams make decisions that directly affect the communities where we live and work. We offer a robust Transportation Engineering Training Program that consist of courses specifically designed to meet CDOT’s specialized needs as well as ones offered by the National Highway Institute. What You’ll Be Doing As a Cost Estimator, you will work with our Construction Engineering Services team at CDOT's Headquarters in Denver, CO. In this role, you will prepare cost estimates for construction projects as a fully-operational licensed engineer, applying engineering theories, concepts and principles to interpret plans and specifications, determine applicable construction techniques, and decide how these factors affect the cost of the work. You will also write reports and publications related to cost estimating.
Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.
As CDOT transitions back to working in the office, you will likely work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.
You may be required to attend conferences, as well as travel within Colorado for training purposes.
Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors
Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from another U.S. state's Board of Licensure. If meeting qualifications with an out-of-state PE license, it is a condition of employment to obtain your Colorado PE license within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications Theexceptional applicantwill be an experienced Cost Estimator with proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;
Highest work/personal ethics and integrity;
Knowledge and experience with the analysis and preparation of engineering cost estimates for transportation projects;
Knowledge and experience in civil engineering design and construction;
Knowledge and experience with traffic engineering fundamentals, CDOT's Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Construction, MUTCD, and M & S Standards;
Knowledge of applicable FHWA, AASHTO, and CDOT rules, regulations and procedures;
A history of progressively responsible project or program management experience, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, and manage multiple, concurrent projects or tasks of varying complexities;
Maintaining current working knowledge of engineering processes, theories, laws, principles, conceptual models, and best practices;
Credibility on technical matters with staff, peers, staff of other organizational units, internal and external customers and local stakeholder groups;
Strong problem solving and analytical skills; experience identifying and analyzing problems using sound reasoning to arrive at conclusions;
Ability to partner with professionals, consultants, vendors, stakeholders and staff, with sensitivity to their needs and priorities to accomplish the organization's goals;
Negotiating with individuals or groups to find mutually acceptable solutions; building consensus through give and take;
Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral;

Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), Gmail, SAP, MS Project, MicroStation, Open Roads, Trns*Port, @Risk and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
