The City of Pasco’s Public Works Department oversees the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the city’s transportation network. The Senior Traffic Engineer works to address traffic-related issues and improve the overall traffic flow in the city. One of the primary responsibilities of the Senior Traffic Engineer is to conduct traffic studies and analyze traffic patterns to identify areas that require improvement. The Senior Traffic Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and synchronization of traffic signals throughout the city and will work to ensure that traffic signal timing is optimized to minimize delays, improve traffic progression, and enhance overall efficiency. This involves coordinating with other city departments, law enforcement agencies, and regional transportation authorities to ensure a cohesive approach to traffic signal operations. In addition to traffic signals, the Senior Traffic Engineer oversees the installation and maintenance of signage, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices, and ensures that the city’s roadways are properly marked with lane lines, crosswalks, stop signs, and regulatory signs to promote safety and guide road users effectively. The Senior Traffic Engineer actively engages with the community, soliciting public input and addressing concerns related to traffic and transportation, and collaborating with neighborhood associations, business organizations, and residents to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into transportation planning and development. Furthermore, the Senior Traffic Engineer plays a vital role in long-term transportation planning for the city, assessing future growth and development patterns, evaluating transportation infrastructure needs, and proposing improvements to accommodate increasing traffic demands. This position will contribute expertise in analyzing traffic flow, conducting capacity analyses, and designing roadway improvements to support the city’s long-term transportation goals.
Education & Experience: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Civil or Traffic Engineering or closely related field. Five years of progressively responsible engineering experience in traffic or transportation engineering design. Previous public works and public agency project experience is preferred. Valid Washington State driver’s license. Registered Professional Engineer of Washington State (PE), or reciprocity in six months. Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) in the State of Washington is desirable.
